Selling and donating

Not everything stays in the family. Gentle Sort keeps track of what’s being sold or given away, where it went, and what it brought in.

Send things off together

Put items going to the same place into one group: a museum, Goodwill, a consignment shop, an auction house or eBay. Add them by code, several at once. Note who you spoke to and the pickup date, then mark the whole group done in one step.

For donations, print the list with values to bring along for the receipt. Every item that leaves is noted in the change history.

Draft eBay listings

For anything you’re selling online, Gentle Sort writes a draft listing from the item’s photos and notes: a title, the category, condition, item details and a description, with a suggested price. It tells you what to measure or check first, and it won’t invent a maker or a date it can’t see. You copy the draft into eBay yourself.

Estate sales and auction houses

Every item already has photos, a description, a category and a value, which is what an estate-sale company or auction house asks for. Send them a list of what no one in the family chose, with appraised pieces marked.

When something sells, record the price. The family can see what each piece brought in.
